Will the last Person to leave Swansea City Please Turn off the Light
By: Tom | July 11th, 2009Swansea City fans have always been optimists, in fact they are probably some of the most optimistic fans in British football, but sometimes I think a bit of reality might need to be acknowledged. At the end of last season Swansea finished an amazing 8th place and were regarded to be the best footballing side in the division by some way. Finishing 8th had taught the club that with a bit of tweaking a playoff spot or even an automatic place was not beyond the clubs reach, but it would take strengthening and for the first time a lot of money to buy players better than the quality we already had. Roberto Martinez left for Wigan and suddenly the most promising squad in the Championship began to be circled by vultures looking to capitalise on a lame Swan. Jason Scotland looks set to sign for Wigan leaving the club without a player who has an average of 1 in 2 games and deepening the end of season issue that Swansea didn’t have enough top class Championship strikers. Further more Ferrie Bodde looks desperate to leave the club and worse still stalwarts such as Garry Monk and fan favourite Leon Brittan have been told to sweat it out over new deals. It seems to me that the club is in a mess on the field and with only 20 days left to bring in around seven top quality players I can’t see how Swansea can achieve a top 10 finnish that everyone seems so certain we shall get. My worry is that over expectation on a squad who have lost two main goal scorers and are still needing new faces could make life very difficult and fans with unrealistic goals might turn on the players and the manager. Most Swans I hope are prepared for a tough season, because at the moment it doesn’t look so good.

That’s a hell of a tough offseason. Good luck picking up some of the pieces before kickoff.

I’m geniuenly gutted for you guys, I really am, you were a great side last season and you taugnt us Wovles a footballing lesson. One of the few sides to do so last season.
Have to say though, is your Chairman really being balshy enough? Surely he can just say enough is enough now? He’ll have some extra cash knocking around too no doubt, all is not lost surely?

Thanks guys. I think most Swans fans are heartbroken at the moment. The club has put up with a lot of bad luck and people milking the club dry and when we finally get a board who cares about the clubs future and a manager who gets the team playing the type of football the club has always tried to play but hasn’t had the money to buy players who can play it. We loose the manager and our players start getting nervous. I think the chairman has done the right thing with players so far but we need to spend big and that is something we said we would never do again after the club was bancrupted after the 2seasons in the topflight!
